Why do we call ourselves 'Peterson Pocket Pups'?

It is not unusual for my husband and myself to have a pup ‘in our pocket’ or with us during the day. At times, they are placed in an apron pocket or coveralls pocket, with their little heads sticking out. In addition, while on a socialization outing with our pups, a man who was playing with them said "they are so small, I could put two of these fellows in my pocket and you'd never know it."    Locally, the term ‘Peterson Pocket Pups’ stuck with us.

PLEASE NOTE: We are not a kennel! We are a family who breeds as 'a lifetime hobby'; therefore, we produce QUALITY, not quantity. All our dogs and pups are family raised, in our home and have NEVER seen the inside of a kennel!

Although, we breed for small size and good temperament, we would never mislead anyone by 'guarantee' of the final size of the pup. We will gladly share with you the final size of the pups' parents and possibly the grandparents’ -because we know our pups. The parents reside in our home and the grandparents may either reside in our home or the home of a family member. Due to various factors, no reputable breeder can offer an honest guarentee of the final size of the pup. I commonly tell people to attempt this- would be like taking a newborn baby to the doctor and asking them for a guarantee of 'how tall the baby will be when they are 23 years old?'-It can't be done! ANYONE WHO TELLS YOU OTHERWISE IS NOT BEING HONEST!

If we have achieved our goal, as hobbyist breeders, by the time our pups arrive at their 'forever' home they are well adjusted to day-to-day family/household living.  We are retired and consider ourselves fortunate because we can spend a lot of time with each pup, knowing him or her as individuals. We pride ourselves in our pups and providing a wealth of information regarding each pup. This includes: time of birth, a daily weight chart for the first 6 weeks and weekly weights thereafter, a socialization log, photos of the pup growing, along with various other bits of information. Although, we sell dogs and pups- we are not selling them 'just to sell' a dog!

Our Family

Our family resides in north central Florida. In fact, we reside in the country ... no beaches here folks ... just pine trees and open land! Our pups are raised without the amenities of traffic, car horns and streetlights. They reside with the background noises of horses running, cattle grazing and frogs croaking! They enjoy clean living, open land to play- not to mention a great deal of love and attention! Our breeder parent dogs and pups are all a part of our family and are treated as such. They sleep inside our home and are litter box trained. 

We breed only Chihuahuas and are dedicated to the integrity of the breed.  Our family also includes a Dachshund and an outdoor ecosystem "goldfish" pond. And yes, the dogs take an occasional swim with the fish.

Being from a family of three generations of dog breeders, we know the dedication it takes to raise healthy, well-adjusted family pets. It is truly a family fascination- my sister who resides in Tennessee, is a breeder of Chihuahuas, Yorkies and Maltese. We are proud to be a small family-based hobbyist breeder; this ensures our pups are given the attention it takes to be socially adjusted to family day-to-day life.

When you contact us we will ask some questions. Based on the information given to us, we will honestly share if our pups would be the right choice for your family. I would rather keep a pup than to sell you a pup that is not suited for your family. To do otherwise, we think, would be totally irresponsible as a breeder- you would be unhappy or more importantly- the pup is unhappy!

We understand we are only a starting place –one that brings them to a special family who will love them as much as we do. Know that each one carries a special place in our hearts forever!
